Altaj is Francesco Vara’s ambient/drone project, also guitarist in psychstoner band Il Dio Cervo and in his psych-folk/drone solo project.
Altaj released the split LP “Turiya” on September 2015 with Adamennon for the Italian label Boring Machines.
Altaj uses field recordings, guitars, drums, voice and effects to follow a sound research for unidentified, thick but liquid landscapes. The inspiration comes from Siberian shamanism, ecstatic voyages and divinities of the Asian highlands.
This selftitled release, in particular, passing through the ethnographical and geographical suggestions of these populations, tries to express the amazement and the powerlessness of mankind towards the mysteries behind Nature.
